How do I anchor an Ekodome to a foundation? Do I need anchor plates?

Everything You Need to Know About Securing Your Geodesic Dome

If you're building a permanent structure, like a geodesic dome house, greenhouse home, or eco dome, anchoring your dome securely to the ground is essential for long-term stability and safety. That's where Ekodome® anchor plates come in.

What Are Anchor Plates and Why Are They Important?

Ekodome anchor plates are made of high-strength steel and attach directly to the bottom hubs of your dome frame. Once installed, they allow you to securely fasten the dome to:

  • A wooden deck (using lag bolts)

  • A concrete slab (using concrete anchors)

  • Raw ground or soil (using custom ground anchor solutions)

Anchor Plates Are Highly Recommended If Your Dome Will Be:

  • Used as a permanent or semi-permanent structure

  • Exposed to strong winds, storms, or seismic activity

  • Built out with furniture, insulation, or add-ons (like windows or tunnel modules)

These steel plates prevent wind uplift, improve seismic resistance, and help maintain the dome’s structural integrity over time.

Are Anchor Plates Included in the Kit?

No, anchor plates are sold separately.

You can:

  • Add them during checkout when ordering your dome

  • Purchase them later if you're building your own custom foundation

  • Choose to engineer your own anchoring solution—but for safety and compatibility, we recommend using Ekodome-certified anchor plates

How Many Anchor Plates Do I Need?

Each dome model has a custom anchor set matched to its frame:

  • 16' Luna – 10 anchors

  • 22' Terra – 15 anchors

  • 29' Cosmos and 30' Stellar – 20 anchors

What About Sealing the Base?

Once your dome is anchored, you'll need to seal the base to protect against water intrusion. Common sealing methods include:

  • Flashing

  • Exterior-grade caulking

  • Silicone or waterproof membranes
