What type of foundation is required, and do you provide one?

Foundation Requirements and Suggestions

We do not provide a foundation and recommend consulting with a local contractor who can help you design a code compliant foundation for your specific project.

When it comes to picking the perfect spot for your dome, you've got to consider all the foundational elements. You need a level, strong, and steady base.

The dome frame itself can weigh over 1500 lbs, and this doesn't include the cover panels, add-ons, or even the furniture you plan to put inside the dome.

Below are 3 options to consider:

1. Wooden Deck: A wooden deck can be a versatile and aesthetically pleasing option. The flexibility of a wooden deck allows for easy customization and expansion, making it ideal if you plan to add on to your dome in the future. Additionally, a wooden deck can blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, creating a harmonious and natural look.

2. Cencrete Pad: A concrete pad offers unparalleled strength and stability. It can support the heavy weight of the dome frame, cover panels, and any additional furniture or equipment you plan to have inside the dome. A concrete pad also provides excellent durability and longevity, ensuring that your dome remains secure and level for years to come. While it may require more time and effort to construct compared to a wooden deck, a concrete pad can be a long-term investment that pays off in terms of reliability and structural integrity.

3. Soil: Placing the dome directly on the soil can have its advantages. It eliminates the need for constructing a wooden deck or a concrete pad, which can be time-consuming and costly. Additionally, it allows for a more natural integration of the dome into the surrounding landscape.

We cannot advise you on the foundation that is best for your project, and recommend that you consult a local contractor who is privy to the local building codes, your projects, and land.
