Do Ekodome kits come with a foundation or flooring?

What your dome kit includes and how to prepare the base before installation.

Ekodome kits do not include a foundation or flooring. Every site is different, so foundations must be built locally by your contractor. The dome arrives with the full aluminum frame, all exterior panels, hardware, and anchoring plates, and it gets installed on a platform or slab that you prepare in advance.

Ekodomes don’t require a specific foundation type. The right choice depends on your land, soil, climate, and whether the project is residential, commercial, or for hospitality. The structure is lightweight compared to traditional buildings, so most standard foundation systems are suitable as long as they provide a level, stable, and fully supported surface.

Most Common Foundation Options

1. Timber Platform on Piers

The most popular setup for glamping, backyards, and uneven terrain.

• built on helical piers, concrete piers, or sonotubes
• fast to build and cost-effective
• ideal for sloped or irregular sites
• lets utilities run underneath

This is the go-to choice for most resorts and tiny-home projects.

2. Concrete Slab

Best for permanent residential or commercial domes.

• strongest and most stable
• easy to finish with tile, polished concrete, or flooring
• great for four-season domes with HVAC or plumbing
• anchors directly into the slab

Choose this when you want a long-term, low-maintenance base.

3. Elevated Deck on Posts

Popular in hospitality, flood zones, and humid coastal locations.

• raises the dome above ground moisture
• helps with airflow and drainage
• allows utilities to be hidden underneath
• works for both Original and PRO Series

Ideal for glamping sites and locations with tricky soil.

4. Ground Screws (With Platform)

A clean, low-impact alternative to concrete.

• installed with minimal disturbance to the land
• fast to set
• platform frame attaches directly on top
• reversible if the dome is ever relocated

A good option for temporary or semi-permanent projects.

Foundation Requirements

No matter which method your contractor chooses:

  • the surface must be perfectly level
  • the surface must be large enough to fully support the dome’s entire circular footprint and all anchor points
  • the foundation must meet your local building requirements, if applicable
  • the construction must be done by a licensed local professional

Ekodome does not design, supply, or install foundations.

What About Flooring?

Flooring is not included in the dome kit. Customers typically install flooring after the platform or slab is completed. Common options include:

  • composite decking
  • hardwood or engineered wood
  • tile or polished concrete (on slab builds)
  • vinyl plank
  • carpet or rugs for interior comfort
  • waterproof flooring for bathrooms or kitchen areas

Your flooring choice depends entirely on your project type, climate, and interior design preferences.
