Structural Analysis of Ekodomes

Our independently conducted structural engineering test results have demonstrated that our original series Ekodomes have exceptional strength and durability when covered with 8-mm HPL compact laminates. These Ekodomes are able to maintain their structural integrity even in the face of sustained winds reaching speeds of 190–200mph. To put this into perspective, such wind speeds are equivalent to those experienced during a Category 5 hurricane, as defined by the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Similarly, the original series Ekodome is strong enough to withstand more than 140lbs/sqft of snow load. 

It is worth noting that the performance of Ekodomes covered with 8-mm HPL compact laminates is comparable to that of solid polycarbonate and glass panels. This is reassuring, as these materials are known for their strength and ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.

However,  the windload and snowload decrease when 8-mm twinwall polycarbonate is used as the cover panels. For this reason, we only recommend using twinwall cover panels for greenhouse purposes.
