How are the panels added to the Ekodome frame?

A detailed, step-by-step overview of how panels are installed once the dome frame is complete.

Panel installation is one of the most important parts of the build, and following the correct sequence ensures a clean finish, proper load transfer, and long-term weather protection. This process applies to all Ekodome models, with a few handling differences between the Original Series and PRO Series.

1. Start From the Top and Work Downward

Panels are always installed from the top of the dome toward the base. This top-down method ensures correct overlap, easy access, and stable working conditions.

2. Each Panel Is Placed Into Its Triangular Bed

The frame forms a triangular “seat” for every panel.
Panels are simply set into this triangle, no brackets, clips, or panel hardware.

Important:
• Do not trim or force a panel
• Follow the panel map so each piece goes into its exact location
• Make sure the panel edges sit properly against the struts

The geometry does the work.

3. Panels Are Secured After Hub Caps and Strut Caps Are Installed

This is where the security happens.

Once a panel is sitting in its triangle:
• Place the strut caps over the strut edges
• Install the hub cap where the three struts meet
• These caps lock the panel in place

The caps create compression that secures:
• The panel
• The strut edges
• The hub intersection

There is no separate panel-fastening system.
The caps are the fastening system.

4. Handling Requirements (Original vs PRO)

Original Series frame hard-shell panels (polycarbonate, HPL):
• Light
• Easy to lift
• Can be placed by a small team

PRO Series glass panels:
• Heavy (average 35 kg / 77 lb each)
• Require two people
• Must be lifted using glass suction cups
• Must be handled slowly to avoid edge impact

The installation logic is the same; handling needs differ.

5. Doors Go In After the First Two Rows

Door frames must be installed after completing the first two rows of panels.
This guarantees proper alignment and load transfer before the door frame is seated into place.

Windows and vents follow later, after most surrounding panels are installed.

6. Apply Neutral-Cure Silicone at All Required Seams

Once panels and caps are installed, all designated seams must be sealed with neutral-cure silicone.

Approved products:
• DOWSIL 791
• DOWSIL 795
• Soudal Neutral-Cure Glazing Silicone

Sealing must be continuous, no gaps, no mixing silicone types.

7. Inspect Alignment and Flushness as You Go

Check after every row:
• panels are flush against the frame
• caps are tight
• panel edges aren’t lifted or misaligned
• silicone beads are smooth and continuous

Small errors compound as you move downward, so corrections must be immediate.

8. Finish the Bottom Row, Then Install Windows and Vents

After all main panels are seated and capped:
• Install windows
• Install vents
• Seal all remaining edges
• Complete the dome enclosure
