What is the difference between floor area and cover area in a geodesic dome?

Understanding geodome dimensions: interior usable space vs. exterior surface coverage

When planning your Ekodome project, it's important to understand the distinction between floor area and cover area. These two measurements serve different purposes: one helps you envision how much usable space you'll have inside the geodome, while the other is key for understanding the structure's overall exterior coverage.

  • Floor Area refers to the usable surface space inside the Ekodome at the base level. This is the area available for furniture, activities, or installations on the ground within the dome.

  • Cover Area refers to the total surface area of the geodome’s panels, essentially the entire outer shell of the structure.

In short:

  • Floor Area = interior ground space

  • Cover Area = total surface of the dome’s exterior

Understanding both helps when planning your geodesic dome’s interior layout and estimating material coverage for insulation, paneling, or custom finishes.
