How do I disassemble and store my Ekodome?
A clear overview of how to take your dome down safely and store it for future use.
Whether you're relocating or preparing for seasonal changes, careful disassembly and proper storage of your Ekodome will help preserve your investment and ensure easy reassembly later.
Disassembling an Ekodome follows the same logic as assembly, just in reverse. Some customers take down their domes for seasonal use, relocation, event setups, or long-term storage, and the process is completely DIY-friendly as long as you have a small team and the right tools.
To disassemble the dome, you’ll remove the cover panels first, then take apart the aluminum frame section by section. All parts are reusable as long as they are handled carefully, kept clean, and stored dry.
For safe storage, keep the frame pieces organized and grouped by size, and store all hardware in labeled containers. Panels should be wrapped or padded to prevent scratching. A garage, storage unit, or dry shed works well as long as the components are protected from moisture and direct sun.
Smaller domes like the Luna and Terra can typically be dismantled in a day. Larger domes like the Cosmos and Stellar usually take two days with a team of two or three. Dismantling is generally about twenty to twenty-five percent faster than the full assembly.
Step-by-Step Disassembly & Storage Guide
1. Clean All Components
Before storing, thoroughly clean and dry all dome parts, including the frame, panels, and connectors, to prevent corrosion, mold, or mildew during storage.
2. Disassemble with Care
Take your time and label parts as you go. Organize struts, hubs, bolts, and gaskets into labeled bags or containers to simplify reassembly.
3. Store in a Dry, Indoor Space
Keep all components in a dry, indoor location. Avoid places that may expose materials to moisture and sunlight.
4. Protect Panels During Storage
Stack panels flat with protective layers (like cardboard, bubble wrap, or foam) between them to prevent scratches, cracks, or warping.
5. Avoid Placing Heavy Items on Top
Never stack heavy objects on top of stored dome parts, especially cover panels or frame pieces, to prevent bending or permanent damage.
6. Inspect Storage Area Periodically
Check for signs of moisture, pests, or shifting materials every few months, especially if your dome will be in storage for a long time.
