What panel materials do Ekodomes use?
A clear breakdown of the hard-shell panel materials used in our dome systems and how we match them to each dome series.
Ekodomes do not use fabric shells, covers, or membranes. Every Ekodome is built with hard, durable panels attached to either the Original Ekodome frame or the PRO architectural-grade frame. The type of panel depends on which product category you choose.
1. Original Hard-Shell Domes
Frame System: Original Ekodome aluminum framework
Panel Systems:
• HPL Compact Laminate
• Solid Polycarbonate
These panels create an enclosed, secure, impact-resistant dome suitable for glamping, backyards, studios, offices, and multi-use spaces. They are durable, animal-resistant, and designed for repeated assembly and dismantling.
2. Greenhouse Domes
Frame System: Original Ekodome aluminum framework
Panel Systems:
• Twinwall Polycarbonate
• Solid Polycarbonate
Twinwall is ideal for diffused light and passive insulation. Solid polycarbonate is used when transparency, visibility, or higher impact resistance is needed. These domes are best for greenhouse growers, agricultural use, learning environments, temporary setups, popup events, and outdoor dining.
3. PRO Domes
Frame System: PRO architectural-grade aluminum framework with thermal break
Panel Systems:
• HPL SIP Insulated Panels
• Double-Pane Glass Panels
SIPs provide structural insulation and allow the dome to be used in all seasons. Glass panels add natural light and premium aesthetics while maintaining high insulation performance. PRO Domes are suited for homes, short-term rentals, hospitality builds, and commercial applications.
4. Glass Houses & Skylights
Frame System: PRO architectural-grade aluminum framework with thermal break
Panel System:
• Full Double-Pane Glass
These structures are fully transparent and used for high-design builds, conservatories, skylight installations, and environments where visual openness is a priority.
Why No Fabric?
Ekodomes do not use fabric, PVC, or canvas shells. Fabric domes lose tension, tear easily, collect mold, and offer poor insulation and security. Ekodomes are engineered to be long-lasting, rigid-panel structures that outperform fabric domes in durability, lifespan, climate control, safety, and ROI. Every Ekodome is built with a solid aluminum frame and rigid hard panels designed for long-term, all-weather use.
