What site preparations do I need to complete before the dome arrives?
A clear checklist of everything you should prepare before your Ekodome arrives so installation goes smoothly.
Preparing your site properly is one of the most important steps in the entire dome installation process. Having your foundation, access, and utilities ready before the crates arrive ensures a smooth, safe, and efficient build.
Choose and clear the installation area
Select a build location with enough room for the dome footprint, the assembly team, and equipment. Clear vegetation, debris, rocks, or uneven soil so your platform contractor has a clean workspace. A flat, stable base area is essential.
Build the foundation or platform
Every Ekodome must sit on a level circular platform or pad that matches the exact base diameter of your dome size. You may use:
• timber platform on piers
• elevated deck on posts
• concrete pad or slab
• ground-screw-supported platform
The right option depends on climate, soil type, slope, and local code. Hire a local builder to construct the foundation before the dome arrives.
Ensure access for delivery and unloading
Crates and pallets are large and heavy. Your site must be reachable by a freight truck or last-mile carrier. Make sure your driveway, access road, or entry point can support large vehicles. If not, plan for an alternate delivery point and local transport to the site.
Prepare unloading equipment
Depending on your dome size and category, you may need:
• a forklift
• skid steer with forks
• or enough manpower to safely open the crates and move panels individually
Panels and crates must remain undamaged during unloading and staging.
Designate a staging area
Choose a flat, clean space near the foundation where you can lay out:
• frame components
• panels
• tools and ladders
• hardware
Organized staging speeds up the build and reduces the risk of losing small components on site.
Plan utilities in advance (if needed)
If your dome will include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or a mini-split:
• plan conduit routes
• determine where utilities will enter the dome
• coordinate with your electrician or plumber before the installation team arrives
Utility integration cannot be improvised during the dome assembly.
Check weather and ground conditions
If your site is muddy, frozen, or waterlogged, your contractor may struggle with platform construction or unloading. Try to time delivery for a workable season, or prepare ground reinforcement if needed.
Communicate with your contractor
Your local builder should know:
• exact dome size
• base diameter
• anchoring method
• access requirements
• expected delivery date
This ensures the platform is complete and ready before the dome arrives.
