What materials are Ekodomes made of?
An overview of the structural materials and exterior panels used across all Ekodome models.
Ekodomes are built as permanent, hard-shell structures using durable architectural materials. There are no fabric covers, no PVC membranes, and no tent-like components. Every dome is constructed from a rigid aluminum frame and solid exterior panels designed for long-term performance in outdoor environments.
1. Frame Materials
High-Strength Aluminum Frame (EN 755-9 Standard)
All frame struts are made from high-strength aluminum profiles engineered for structural precision.
- lightweight and corrosion-resistant
- meets EN 755-9 standards for uniformity and structural performance
- maintains long-term rigidity in all climates
- fully recyclable with no loss of strength
These profiles form the structural skeleton of every Ekodome.
Aluminum Cast Hubs (A360 Alloy)
Hubs are made from A360 aluminum alloy, chosen for its mechanical and thermal properties.
- excellent high-pressure tightness and heat resistance
- superior corrosion protection
- high fluidity during casting for precise geometry
- maintains the dome’s structural integrity over decades
These hubs connect every frame intersection and are central to the dome’s strength.
Steel Hardware
All connectors, bolts, washers, and nuts are industrial-grade steel components.
- black-oxide coated
- designed for secure tensioning
- resistant to wear and deformation
- ensures rigid, stable connections at every hub point
2. Exterior Panel Materials
Ekodomes use rigid, solid exterior panels only. No fabric or stretch membranes are used.
Different dome series use different panel systems depending on insulation, visibility, and climate performance.
To keep this FAQ concise, the full breakdown of all five panel materials is covered in its own article:

3. Doors, Windows, and Envelope Components
Depending on the dome series, Ekodomes include:
• ADA-compliant aluminum doors
• double-pane insulated glass windows
• operable vents and optional tunnel modules
All components integrate directly into the rigid aluminum structure.
4. Gaskets, Seals, and Insulation Components
Each dome is finished with:
• EPDM or silicone gaskets at hubs
• neoprene or rubber seals for openings
• high-quality exterior-grade sealants (Dowsil 791 / 795)
• PIR foam insulation cores for PRO Series SIP panels
These materials create a tight, durable building envelope designed for long-term performance.
