How do I clean my dome?
Safe and simple ways to clean the panels, frame, and windows without damaging your Ekodome.
Ekodomes are low-maintenance, but like any outdoor structure, they benefit from occasional cleaning. The method depends on the panel type (polycarbonate, HPL, SIP, or glass). Here’s how to keep everything looking new.
Cleaning Polycarbonate Panels (Twinwall or Solid)
Polycarbonate scratches easily, so gentle cleaning is essential.
Use:
• lukewarm water
• mild dish soap
• a soft microfiber cloth or soft sponge
Avoid:
• pressure washers
• abrasive pads or scrubbers
• ammonia-based cleaners (like Windex)
• solvents, alcohol, or any harsh chemicals
How to clean:
Mix mild soap with water, wipe gently, rinse thoroughly, and let air dry.
For tougher dirt, repeat gently. Don’t increase pressure.
Cleaning Glass Panels (PRO Series)
Treat like residential windows.
Use:
• Windex or other standard glass cleaner
• soft cloth or squeegee
• gentle soap + water for heavy buildup
Avoid:
• abrasive tools
• razor blades on the coating
• acid-based cleaners
Glass is the easiest to keep spotless, especially if the dome is shaded or in a low-dust area.
Cleaning HPL Compact Laminate or SIP Panels
Very durable and scratch-resistant.
Use:
• warm water
• mild cleaning detergent
• soft microfiber cloth
Avoid:
• bleach
• highly acidic cleaners
• scouring pads
• abrasive powders or harsh chemicals
HPL tolerates more than polycarbonate but still benefits from gentle cleaning.
Cleaning the Aluminum Frame
The frame is powder-coated aluminum.
Use:
• mild soapy water
• soft cloth or sponge
• hose rinse
Avoid:
• pressure washers at close range
• abrasive pads
• strong solvents or degreasers
If you ever scratch the coating, see our article on how to touch up the frame.
How often should I clean the dome?
- Light climates: once or twice a year
- High dust, pollen, salt air, or tree coverage: every 3–4 months
- Greenhouses: more frequent cleaning may be needed to maximize light transmission
Power Washing Tips (for Deeper Cleaning)
For stubborn dirt or outdoor buildup, power washing can be used but with extra care:
-
Use low to medium pressure
-
Start from the top and work downward
-
Keep the nozzle at a safe distance to prevent denting or surface damage
-
Avoid spraying directly at seals or joints, as this can compromise watertight areas
Important Notes
- Do not stand on the panels.
- Do not spray water inside panel seams or vent openings using high pressure.
- Always clean on a mild day, extreme heat or cold can cause streaks or stress on materials.
