Do I need a forklift or special equipment to unload the dome?
What equipment do I need to safely unload my Ekodome crate?
Ekodome kits are shipped in oversized, heavy crates or pallets that must be unloaded safely from a freight truck. No matter which dome you purchase, you should plan to have equipment on-site for unloading, because liftgate trucks cannot handle the dimensions or weight of our crates reliably.
What You’ll Need
To unload your dome quickly and safely, you will need one of the following:
• A forklift
• A telehandler
• A tractor with pallet forks
• A skid steer with forks
These machines make the process smooth, controlled, and safe for both the crate and the people handling it.
Why You Need Equipment
• Ekodome crates are oversized, even for smaller models like the Luna.
• They are heavy, with weight concentrated in long, rigid frames and panels.
• Freight carriers are restricted to curbside delivery and cannot unload for you.
• Liftgates are often too small or not rated for the crate size and weight.
This means equipment is needed in almost all deliveries unless you have specific arrangements with a local carrier.
How Long Does It Take?
With the right equipment:
• Unloading takes 15–20 minutes
• Everything can be placed neatly beside your foundation or staging area
• You avoid damage that might occur with improvised unloading
Equipment Rentals
If you don’t have equipment on your property, a short-term rental is simple to arrange.
Most local rental centers offer forklifts and telehandlers by the hour.
