Can I hire a local contractor to install my dome?

Yes, and in many cases it’s the easiest and safest way to assemble your Ekodome, especially for larger domes or full-time living setups.

Yes, you can hire a local contractor to install your Ekodome. Our domes are designed to be DIY-friendly, but not everyone feels comfortable working at height, handling large components, or managing a multi-day build. Many customers bring in a local carpenter, builder, or general contractor to assist with the assembly.

Here’s what to keep in mind.

Most contractors can assemble an Ekodome.

If they’re familiar with basic framing, tools, ladders, and following installation manuals, they can handle the dome assembly. The process is straightforward, step-by-step, and doesn't require specialized geodesic experience.

We provide:

• a printed installation manual
• instructional videos
• after-sales support during business hours
• detailed diagrams for every component

Your contractor will have everything they need.

Foundation work must be done locally.

Whether you're building on a slab, deck, or platform, foundation and leveling must be handled by a local professional.
We don’t provide foundation services.

A note of caution when hiring local contractors

Most contractors do a great job, but as with any industry, some take advantage of clients who are unfamiliar with the product. We want you to get a smooth installation without unnecessary costs, frustration, or damage to your dome. Here’s what to keep in mind:

1. If we tell you something is not required, trust us.
Occasionally a contractor will insist on extra materials or steps that have nothing to do with our system. This is usually an upsell. If we say it’s unnecessary, it truly is.

2. If a contractor claims a part is wrong or faulty, check with us first.
Most of the time, it’s a misunderstanding of how the dome components work. Before you accept blame or pay for corrections, send us a photo. We’ll tell you exactly what’s happening.

3. Every component has real value. Make sure your contractor treats them accordingly.
Our parts are not generic hardware-store items. If pieces go missing on-site, ask your contractor to pay for them. Each component has a cost, and it’s fair that the team handling them is responsible for keeping track.

4. Never allow a contractor to modify, cut, drill, or “adjust” any dome component without asking us.
Once something is altered, it can’t be reversed and it immediately voids our support. Always check with us before they make changes. We’ll tell you what’s safe and what isn’t.

5. Remind your contractor that this is a precision-engineered product.
These components are not meant to be tossed around on muddy ground or handled carelessly. A good contractor will respect the materials and keep the workspace clean. If someone treats the parts roughly, speak up immediately.

We are your support system
