Yes, Ekodomes can be customized. Standard configurations give you plenty of flexibility, and for clients who need deeper customization, we can take on full custom engineering projects as long as the scope, timeline, and budget align.
The key distinction is this:
Standard customizations are easy. Structural customizations are possible, but they require full engineering and come with significant additional cost.
Customization You Can Do Easily
These options do not change the engineered geometry of the dome:
Door Options
• additional doors
• tunnel connection doors for linking multiple domes
Window & Vent Options
• operable windows
• fixed windows
• circular vents
• additional ventilation points depending on your climate
Panel Options
You can choose the type of panels depending on insulation needs and aesthetic preferences:
• twinwall polycarbonate
• clear solid polycarbonate
• HPL compact laminate
• R-24 insulated SIP panels
• insulated double-pane glass (in various options)
Interior Layout
You can fully customize the interior floor plan, finishes, furnishings, and utilities. Many customers design lofts, bathrooms, kitchens, and creative room layouts inside their dome.
Color Options (when available)
Depending on the material chosen, certain panel types come in different color finishes.
Customization That Requires Engineering
These requests are all technically possible, but they require a full design and engineering process. These projects typically add 20–50% or more to the price depending on the scope.
- resizing the dome to non-standard diameters
- increasing or reducing the number of panels
- altering the geometry of the frame
- custom double-wing or oversized doors
- changing window shapes or modifying structural openings
- adding heavy snow-load or wind-load reinforcements beyond standard capacity
- heavy architectural modifications for commercial or resort builds
These require:
- full redesign
- structural analysis
- prototyping when needed
- engineering sign-offs
- extended production timelines
Custom engineering is absolutely possible, but it’s important to understand what it involves. Even adjustments that seem minor, like changing the diameter by a few feet or modifying panel layers, require a full engineering review, new manufacturing files, and additional production time. These projects demand both time and budget, so it’s worth considering whether the customization will meaningfully improve your project before moving forward. What About Multi-Dome Clusters?
These are also possible, but they fall under full architectural design and engineering projects. Costs and timelines increase accordingly.
For most projects, linking domes with our tunnel modules is the most cost-effective and streamlined option.
