Can I add insulation to the Original Hard-Shell Domes instead of upgrading to a PRO Dome?
Understand what’s possible with the lightweight Original frame and when a PRO upgrade becomes necessary.
The Original Hard-Shell Domes are designed as lightweight, modular structures and are not meant to function as fully insulated architectural buildings. The frame accepts 8 mm panels only, which limits how much insulation can be added compared to the PRO Dome system.
You can add light interior insulation if needed; customers often use thin reflective layers, soft liners, or modular insulation panels on the inside. This helps manage temperature, but it won’t match the performance of a PRO Dome, which uses insulated SIP panels and double-pane glass with thermal-break framing.
If you need year-round energy efficiency, reliable climate control, or architectural-grade insulation values, upgrading to a PRO Dome is the correct path. The Original Hard-Shell Dome is ideal for modular use, seasonal spaces, hobby structures, greenhouses, and temporary or semi-permanent installations. The PRO Dome is engineered specifically for residential, commercial, and high-performance environments.
Both options are durable and long-lasting. The difference is simply the level of thermal performance the project requires.
